This week in Coach J's PE class, we learned about hockey. Hockey originated in Egypt 4,000 years ago and the more popular ice hockey in our culture was established in Canada in the mid 1800's. Field Hockey was introduced in the Olympics in 1908 and Ice Hockey was first displayed in the 1920 Summer Olympics (later changed to Winter). We also learned about Wayne Gretzky, who is the all-time leader in goals and assists in the National Hockey League (NHL). Additionally, the Canadiens have the most Stanley Cup (NHL Championship) victories of all time (24).
For Workout Wednesday, Coach Felix and myself had established 12 stations of exercise that included cardio, core, lower, and upper body exercises. This included push-ups, squats, goblet squats with kettle bells, wall ball squats, jumping rope, burpees, sit-ups, oblique sit-ups, planks, step-ups, mountain climbers, and lunges. The students were to count their repetitions with some students reaching over 800 reps throughout the activity!
On Friday in our Class Competition, my class competed against Coach Felix's class in basketball and 4-square!
Next week, we will be doing Archery.
